WHAT WE DO...

Three Areas of Opportunity
The Columbus Jaycees offers members opportunities for community development, individual development and management development.

Community Development projects:

  • Faith Mission Shelter -- Every first Thursday of each month, the dedicated Jaycees volunteer their time to serve dinner to the homeless men of Columbus. The men's shelter is located at 1151 N. 6th St., and we serve dinner from 7:15pm-8:30pm.
  • Habitat for Humanity -- We participate in several Habitat projects a year. We have assisted in renovating and building houses to provide a way for individuals in need to break the poverty cycle and experience home ownership. Project dates are announced several weeks in advance. It's always fun and rewarding.
  • Keep Columbus Beautiful -- KCB promotes activities in the areas of public awareness, education, recycling, litter prevention and beautfication. The Jaycees have joined the Adopt an Area program, and we are responsible for the exit/entrance ramps of SR 315 and Bethel Road. We take a Saturday morning every few months to clean up this busy area. Look for our sign the next time you're driving by!
  • MAP Furniture Drive -- The Columbus Jaycees have held 2 successful furniture drives to benefit Material Assistance Providers (MAP), and we look forward to many more. MAP provides Central Ohio residents in need with furniture and other household goods to help them get back on their feet.
  • KidCare ID -- This project is aimed at increasing awareness about the issue of missing and exploited children. We spend an afternoon at a local shopping center, offering a photo booth for kids to have their picture taken and displayed in their own passport-like KidCare ID. In addition, we offer education materials to parents and children about staying safe.
  • Special Olympics Dunk Tank -- Every June, we host a dunk tank for the Special Olympics athletes, friends and family. No one can pass up the opportunity to "dunk a Jaycee" and receive a ribbon for their efforts. This is always a great event for everyone involved.
  • Mid-Ohio Food Bank *new* - On a quarterly basis, the Jaycees volunteer at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank Singles Night. This provides a fun, low-key opportunity to help with a great cause while meeting other community-minded individuals.
  • Christmas Wish -- Every year during the holiday season, we adopt a group of less fortunate children at a local elementary school. The children are treated to a morning of crafts, wrapping gifts for family members, games, food and, of course, a visit from Santa!
  • Project Ten Pin -- this event was a chapter bowl-a-thon sponsored by the Junior Chamber Family AIDS Network. The successful event took place on Saturday June 12, 2004 and raised over $3000 for JCFAN!!

The purpose of management development is to conduct chapter business as
well as to provide opportunities for professional growth. Members can chair
projects to develop skills in leadership, organizing and administrating.
Members can also serve as officers, practicing specific skills in
public relations, website development, financial management, and more.

Guest speakers are often brought in to speak at chapter meetings. Past
topics have ranged from the development of Eastland Mall to heart health to
managing one’s professional development and the challenges of running a
business. If you are interested in being a guest speaker for an upcoming
